Bassman 1 Posted March 3, 2008 Gents, My diff on my 405 (1.8i XU7 BE3) is noisy, is there anything stopping be dropping a BE3 diff from a 205GTi in as I think I can get one cheaply? Thanks Rob
James_R 3 Posted March 3, 2008 Nope just need to swap the final from the old diff over, and ideally put in new diff bearings.
welshpug 1,657 Posted March 3, 2008 r/h driveshaft may be different, depends how early the XU7 gearbox is.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted March 3, 2008 Both of the 405 driveshaft ends might be different, the diff ends are shorter iirc but I don't know if that'll cause it not to work though. I know when Henry Yorke got the hybrid box his CTi turbo is running with a 405 Be3 SRi gearbox & 1.9 FD from me the 205 shafts wouldn't fit fully into the diff in that box so his brother had to swap the diff for his 205 one to get it all back together. Thanks Gents, Having had a quick squint on http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com the BE1, BE3 and 405 BE3 all list the same diff housing 3125.53 with the same bearings 3125.18, it's just the crown wheel that changes so it should be a like for like swap. I'll have a punt for £5! Thanks Rob Edited March 3, 2008 by Bassman

Rob, Its not the diff housing that stops the driveshafts from sitting fully into the diff but the diff itself. The gearbox end of the driveshafts on the later 405's is shorter to suit the later diff.
