Tyre Size To Complish C5 Steeloys

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just looked into Tyre sizes for the C5 Wheels and tried to find out what actually is available.

Possible would be

195/50 15 (common)

195/45 15

185/55 15

175/55 15

165/50 15 (the cow on the ice?)

I once read - think it was on here somewhere - that a 195 tyre is almost too wide for a 6" wheel and that a 175 tyre would fit that size best handling wise.

So a 165 tyre would be rather small but possible.

But there are other things to consider - how would the tyre size affect the handling on a 205? Does the 205 really need wider tyres - say at least 185´s - for better cornering and would such a small tyre totally ruin the cornering and lead to understeering?

Then again a smaller tyre would be lighter than a bigger one and this would be important, because the tyre mass is at the furthest point from the center - and the radius counts squarely in the formula for the "moment of inertia". So a light wheel like the C5´s combined with a light tyre and a lightened flywheel should be very noticeable.

I remember my old xs was more fun to drive with it´s 13" and 165´s than with the 14" and 185´s - there was also a drop in max speed of nearly 20 Km/h.

I saw a lot of the dubber´s putting that 165 tyre on their pirelli wheels - but are they going fast with that tyres or only showing off?

I really like to see a good discussion about that
