Bakes100 20 1 Cars Posted March 3, 2008 I seem to have some play in my steering rack , when the car is switched off i can waggle the steering and something seems to "clonk", both the track rod ends are a few months old as are wishbones and hubs/bearings. Is this normal or is my rack shot?? It also clonks when i have the lock wound on when pulling onto my sloped drive. Its PAS aswell
Jrod 7 Posted March 3, 2008 It's probably the rack. Mine did this when I was using a PAS rack as a quick rack with no ram, awful amount of play in the end and when I changed the racks it felt so much better.
Anthony 1,003 Posted March 3, 2008 Check that the steering rack is bolted tightly to the subframe - fixed someone's 205 this weekend that had an appauling amount of play in the steering, and that was because the steering rack had come loose, meaning that the rack itself was moving left and rigth when you steered Otherwise it'll be the rack itself (usually they'll be play in the passenger side trackrod in my experience) or the UJ is worn/loose.
