Orientation Of Lower Rear Engine Mount

Recommended Posts

kyepan

Hi there,

Has anyone got a photo of the correct orientation for a standard lower rear engine mount?

This is to clear up a long running argument my exhaust has with the subframe cross member.

cheers

Justin

not sure exactly what you mean, it can only bolt on one way or the driveshaft wont go through it.

Super Josh

I think Justin means, which way round should you press it into the mounting. With the rib runing front to back or top to bottom :D Which engine and exhaust are you running? With my Mi and Maniflow style 4 -2-1 it would foul with a standard mount. It's been fine since I fitted the TD one.

Josh, thats great, thanks very much.

although i did not see a difinitive answer to the orientation question. Vertical to actual vertical (when taking the engine angle into account, seems sensible. What did you do?

cheers

Justin.

Justin, I fitted it the same way round as my standard mount, with the thick rib on the rubber running front to back on the car. I thought this way would give less front to rear movement, so less chance of the manifold banging on the underside of the car.

just had a look at the one on my mum's TD 405 and its fitted with the rib vertically (with the engine that is)

the part number quoted comes up as being for P2 405 1.8 and 2.0 (inc Mi16) but not the TD?!

nearly every 406 uses the mount and its still being used in the 407 :D

so we have josh suggesting horzontal, and welshpug (sorry mate don't know your name) suggesting vertical..

can i open the poll up a little wider, post pics if you have them..

Sarty is also looking in haynes ( as he is the spare time nonsense post monster) thanks Rich, but from my breif glance, i could not see anything.

so reply if you have any extra votes, for horixontal and vertical. PS, mine is smacking the crossmember below, rather than the bulkhead.

cheers

Mounting it vertical is how they normally are standard. However as Josh suggests running it horizontal "should" mean that there is less movement back to front which is why alot of people on here run them like that.

My exhaust also hits the crossmember on the subframe (re-angled Mi manifold with 205 exhaust) but I heated the downpipe up and bent it to adjust the angle as it was so close to mating up with the manifold. However as the engine mounts have worn in a bit more and the engine now moves a little the downpipe is gently touching the subframe meaning it vibrates at certain (low) revs. At some point I will get my ass in gear and chop the flange off and re-weld it so that the downpipe sits higher up eradicating the problem.

Is this similar to how yours is hitting the subframe ?

Michael
