New Springs "settling"

Recommended Posts

kilauea

I had some -35mm springs fitted (the ones from Autofive) a week or so ago with the rear beam lowered too.

At the moment the front doesn't look like it has lowered much if at all, yet the rear is noticably lower.

Question is how long will it likely to take for the springs to settle, are they likely to move much and will it even the car out?

Or...do I need to adjust the beam again?

TIA

Well how much was the beam lowered by? you should instantly notice a difference on the front and even when they have settled theres only a very small change in ride height. Bear in mind the rear arch is lower than the front so it often gives the appearance of the back being lower, pics might be good...

The car should be pretty much at its new ride height straight away, about a week later you may do a double-take and think "crikey it has sunk a touch I think" and that'll be all done.

Have you moved the car since you put the springs on? -as it takes a few meters for the car to relax after being let off axle stands..

I think its a combination of group N top mounts restricting the front drop and the rear beam being "over-lowered".

I am going to double check the springs though as it doesn't look like it has lowered the front at all (supposed to be -35mm) - granted it will have been a bit sloppy on the original springs before doing it.

Drives well though! I was expecting a lot more understeer with a low back and the group A rear mounts fitted.

I will give it a week and then adjust the beam up to match where the front is then.

EDIT: Just a thought. Do the group A rear mounts (BBM ones) have any lowering effect?
