pip470 61 Posted February 29, 2008 (edited) Ok so, i have been doing a lot of searching and come across a bit of information that is not totally clear. There are two mi16 variants, alloy block and steel block, alloy .................................. steel 1.9 ................................... 2.0 160hp ................................... 155 83mm bore............................. 86mm bore 88mm stroke ............................ 86mm stroke 34.6 inlet ............................. ???????? 29.6 exhaust ............................... ?????????? xu9j4 ................................ Xu10j4r??????? Now thats not the conflicting info, what is is the differance between the s16 xu10j4z and the ?????? xu10j4r Some people say they are the same but they have different power outputs qouted 155hp and 135hp respectively. Some also say that its the same as the steel block mi16. If this is true which one. Can any one shed any light on what car they both came from, pretty sure the xu10j4r is from an xsi 306. and if they can put down any information about the two that would be great. Cheers Phill Edited February 29, 2008 by pip470
Bakes100 20 1 Cars Posted February 29, 2008 I think you will find the 135bhp xu10j4r is the same/very similar iron block to a gti6 but the head is not as refined, eg milder cams, smaller ports and valves?? and minus the 4 branch manifold. This engine is definetly in the 306 Xsi and also 406 2.0 i think? Hope This Helps

pip470 61 Posted February 29, 2008 Thanks for the replys, whats the name of your website please peter. I tried pming you but your inbox is full. So if the mi16 steel block is the xu104jr and is 155 hp why is the xu10j4r only 135 in a 306. why has it got the same engine code. Which engine has the t16 internals which i also read somewhere but they said it was in the s16. What is the s16? Phill
jackherer 543 Posted February 29, 2008 So if the mi16 steel block is the xu104jr and is 155 hp why is the xu10j4r only 135 in a 306. why has it got the same engine code. The Mi16 2.0 steel block is XU10J4 (no R) and is 155bhp, the same engine is in the 306 S16. The 135bhp engine is XU10J4R.
pip470 61 Posted February 29, 2008 ok, this is starting to build a picture. just found this........ Peugeot XU10J4/XU10J4Z Fitted exclusively to the Peugeot 306 s16 the XU10J4Z engine produces either 150bhp (108kW) or 155bhp (111kW) depending on the injection management system used. This 2.0 litre (1998 cc) unit has 16 valves and uses multi point fuel injection. The s16 engine was very similar in design to the Mi16 engines used in the Peugeot 405 and these engines are extremely popular for engine conversions especially on Peugeot 205 and Peugeot 309 models. The XU10J4Z also shares many design features with the legendary T16 engine.
