Big_Jimbob 0 Posted February 28, 2008 Hey guys, my gti has a judder when i pull off from a junction and when reversing... It feels like its on the left hand side of the car.... Would this be the short driveshaft? or lower engine mount? thanks Jim
Coonper 0 Posted February 28, 2008 You sure the car is running correctly? If it is then as you said, either engine mount, or driveshaft. Check both for play.
Big_Jimbob 0 Posted February 28, 2008 Yeh, im sure its not the engine, cause it happens as the clutch is slipped/let out and it does it with any amount of revs.... I just didnt know if this was a common thing... Jim

DamirGTI 342 Posted February 29, 2008 Hello ! Check all the engine mounts , especially one at the bottom of the engine near the sump trough which goes the RH driveshaft .. If any of them is visible worn - renew it (they're not expensive and you can buy them at your local car part store no need for OE engine mounts !) You can check the mounts with an long bar - stick it in between the chassis or sub frame and "tense" the engine near the mounts left/right , up/down etc. and check for free play -> feel for any excessive movement ... If the mounts are looking good (rubber) try tightening the mounting bolts , and then again check for free play with the bar ... Hope this helps Damir
Grim.Badger 15 Posted February 29, 2008 Also check that the gearbox isn't coming away from the engine as they have a habit of losing their bolts and pulling away from each other which causes a judder like the one you described.
tom_m 0 Posted February 29, 2008 the clutch tends to judder somewhat in the early stages of wear too.
kate205gti 4 Posted February 29, 2008 ooh i know i know mine did this - had shed a bolt out the gearbox check youve still got all of them and they all done up tight!!
fiji bob 0 Posted February 29, 2008 mine did it when there was a leak from the thermostat housing area, it was slowly running down into the clutch housing making it judder until i fixed the leak.
