Removing Door Lock Barrels?

Recommended Posts

Hardgraf

Hello. New to all this. In the process of changing the off side door on my GTi.

How do you remove the door lock barrels? Do you need to remove the rod from the barrel then slide out the spring clip?

The spring clip doesn't want to budge. It's probably been on their since the 80's

Thanks

Tom

As above, but grip the slider with mole grips and gently tap the grips. When the barrel is loose in the door skin you can unclip the rod or, as I usually do, prise the white plastic bit off the end of the barrel. Thread a piece of wire through the removed plastic from outside to keep it in place while the lock is out - saves a lot of fiddling around inside the doorskin later :D
