Craigb 2 Posted February 27, 2008 I have just fitted a longacre low oil pressure switch , using an adapter that retains the original switch . I am now not getting the gauge working correctly , I haven't rechecked the wiring yet , that's tonights job, but my question is this . does anyone have a std car close to them , if so does the oil pressure gauge needle move off its seat when the ignition is switched on , engine not running , as mine lifts of its seat when powered up . but the OE low oil pressure light doen't come on . It sounds to me that i have crossed wires some where , and that i have reconected the wires wrong way .

taylorspug 7 Posted February 27, 2008 It should lift up before you start it, the only one that doesnt is the oil temp. I always use this as a good way to check the wiring to the guages is connected before firing the engine. The OE light should come on with the ignition on and then go out once it is started. Earthing the wires with the ignition on will indicate what function they have, as the gauge will go to maximum when earthed and the low pressure light will come on when earthed. Craigb 2 Posted February 27, 2008 Not a good night tonight . The sender and switch were wired up correctly . Although the switch was knackered . I replaced the switch , and the red light came on , i tested the pressure sender , it went full scale deflection when earthed , and halfway when i connected it to my grease gun . So i connected it all up again and turned the engine over . The std oil switch went out , but the gauage hardly moved from the first mark . The longacre switch didn't go out , but I'm not entirely sure what pressure it was set at . It looks like i have a more seroius engine problem . Oil Pump Main Bearings Big ends Where do i start ? Or do i just bite the bullet and swap the lot ?
