davev 1 Posted February 26, 2008 hi, ive recently bought a second hand xu10 oil pump(from scrapyard) and was wondering hpw strong and reliable they are? as i believe that the car it came from was not looked after(from the state of the oil) and when i took one bolt out a drible of water came out the hole so it could have possibly been floating round the pump. also if i give it a good claen to get the gunk off are there and seals that will perrish(sp) as i dont want to put a clean pump on that dont work. lol. cheers. dave. James_R 3 Posted February 28, 2008 best off opening it up, and getting some wet and dry on MDF to clean up the striation (sp??) marks on the side of the pump housing where the gears have marked it, then give it a clean, lube it and away you go, no sealent when you put it back together. long as it's a pug one you'll be fine, the repalcement ones seems to die quick. Miles 331 1 Cars Posted February 29, 2008 It's a Spur gear pump so it's a very very simple design going back to the stone age (Well almost) Some 6 pumps have a Shim in them to stop the gears making the case, not sure why some do and some don;t thou But to back up James's comment the pattern pumps are rubbish and are the only one's I've seen problems with
