barney 0 Posted February 26, 2008 On a phase 2 1.6 GTi B6E engine what thinkness is the standard head gasket? Is there a choice or are the thickers ones to allow for liner decking/protrusion. Oli
lagonda 42 Posted February 26, 2008 Can't advise thickness but according to Haynes, there are thicker ones to be used where head has been machined, purpose being to return compression ratio to original. Gasket thickness would make no difference to liner protrusion, so wouldn't solve any issues you may have there.
ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted February 26, 2008 (edited) I'm not sure about the 1.6, but I was told that you can take upto 2mm off the head and not have any issues. In fact it's recomended you skim the head to increase the compression to improve drivability. Like I said thats the 1.9 though!
