Coolant Housing (at The Back Of The Block)

Recommended Posts

Hello !

Does anyone know correct size/diameter of the O ring seal for this coolant housing :

It's the housing for the coolant pipes at the back of the block near the water pump ..

I've bought one new O ring seal , but it's a little bit to small me thinks as when i fit him inside theres a few mm gap around so i'm not sure will it seal up ...

old seal :

new seal :

I can't imagine you'll go too far wrong with either the 'o' ring you have together with a bead of silicon, or indeed just the silicon bead, filling the recess.

If the new O-ring sits proud of the face of the housing then it will seal. Diameter isn't so important, it is the section size of the O-ring (ensuring it sits above the face) that does the sealing.

Yes i was thinking to fit the seal together with the sealant , but i remember when i was repairing my mates WV Golf which had leak from the thermostat housing (was a similar O ring sealing system and plastic housing) and i really could not seal it no matter which type of sealant I've been using , with or without the O ring , and eventually I've seal it up when I've bought proper OE WV seal for thermostat housing  ..

Yes it does but not so much , thats why i was thinking that maybe it needs to be a little bit thicker  as it'll compress down when bolted back against the block surface ..

Can you not get the original seal from Peugeot? If you cant get one where you live I'd be happy to order one and post it, I don't think they cost much. I had to replace mine last year and it sealed perfectly. They are a strange seal as they are square sectioned and are flush with the housing surface

You have to get the seal from Pug. It's only a few pennies.

The one you have put in now is meant to go into the thermostat housing

Hello !

Ok. , then i'll buy an OE seal it's not a problem ;) ... it's just that i can't find part number for this O ring seal :) i've been searching on pug catalogue but it seems like petrol XU engines don't have an O ring on that coolant housing , they have ordinary gasket (my old 1.9 D6B engine has gasket there and housing is made of metal , while on this new 1.9 DKZ engine the housing is made of plastic and with the O ring sealing system ..)

Anyway i've found part numb. for O rings but they are listed only for the late XU diesel engines .. and theres a few sizes on the list ?!

petrol XU :

http://www.stuartmcguire.co.uk/pug/GB/205F/1/13E21A.HTM

diesel XU :

http://www.stuartmcguire.co.uk/pug/GB/205N/1/13E40A.HTM

1. DIAM 42X2

2. DIAM 42X3

3. 40,4X47,5-3,53

Thanks boys ! :)

Fixed :D , but thanks anyway :P

(..however me thinks that this week i'll have an O ring seal party :) -> now the heater matrix has leaked out from the pipe joint seals , bugger smile35.gif ..)

Damir, you've found the one you need in the last link you posted to the parts cd.

Item 05;

1339 90 01 RING-SEAL DIAM 42X2 - SINCE DATE 19920901 UNTIL DATE 19930101

1339 97 01 DIAM 42X3 - SINCE DATE 19930401 UNTIL DATE 19931101

The only difference between the two is the thickness of the seal so I'd get the 1339 97. I think thats the number I got when I bought one a year or two ago.

Graham.
