Which Sensor Is This?

Recommended Posts

Ok found the source of my red light problems. I just need help identifying it. The senser is part of pair located under and behind the distributor. It's the smaller of the two on the left, and shown in the pic with a very faint red circle around it.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I want to help because I've gone sensor crazy recently getting my engine and loom ready. However I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at here as I can't see the dizzy or anything else a reference.

However, neither of them looks like the oil pressure sender and IF this picture is anywhere near the thermostat then one will be temp sender and the other (larger one) will be the temp warning light.

Zoom out a bit and orientate the picture unless anyone else recognizes these straight away.

flip the picture around 180 degrees Rich, they are the two dash temperature senders/switches, I cant remember which is which, but if you pull the connector off one and earth it you should either see the needle go to the top or the red light come on, and vice-versa with t'other.

They're the coolant temp gauge and warning light senders.

Smaller one is for the gauge, and the bigger one the warning light IIRC. Get them the wrong way round and the STOP light will slowly get brighter as the engine warms up and the gauge won't move (until the engine cooks, then it'll read full)

Just a bit of background, the dreaded stop light and the red coolant warning light illuminate when the engine is running. Pull off the red connector and the light goes out, so i am thinking that the sender is the problem here.

Below are a couple of pics of the area

You can just see the red connector in the pics. Going from what you have said i would guess that it is the temp sender unless of course they have been put on the wrong way round.

Just read the other posts, the gauge works but the red light does get redder the the hotter it gets, baws i'm confused

I thought they were the senders at the front of the engine above the oil filter?

Edit: ignore me there the oil pressure/sender :)
