Atari Boy 11 Posted February 24, 2008 (edited) I have been slowly stripping a beam to rebuild and replace my existing one. All was going okay, until this happened. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x151/At...0080224_075.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x151/At...0080224_073.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x151/At...0080224_074.jpg Is there a way of remedying the problem or is the whole beam scrap now? The other trailing arm is still attached and I am not sure how I would be able to get it off the cross member. Help! Baz 421 Posted February 24, 2008 No, that's f*cked, for want of a better word. You could try and remove the shaft from the tube but it'll be next to pointless as the shaft and tube will both 99% likely to be fecked too.
welshpug 1,657 Posted February 24, 2008 ditto! from the angle of the shaft I'd hazard a guess that if you do get it out that its worn the tube Best bet IMO is to remove the other trailing arm, place a scaffold tube against the inner end of the Arm Shaft and work away your anger/frustration with a BMOFOS
Atari Boy 11 Posted February 24, 2008 (edited) The joys of old cars! Onwards and upwards. I am already watching that beam, is it yours Baz? It looks okay. Thanks Jonny Edited February 24, 2008 by Atari Boy
Anthony 1,003 Posted February 24, 2008 As said, that shaft/tube will be scrap and I really wouldn't waste your energy trying to remove it - I assume it was siezed or very badly cambered before you tried to strip it?
M_R_205 5 1 Cars Posted February 28, 2008 I had the exact same problem a few weeks back, i removed the other arm, scaffy bar in, and then holding the beam with the scaffy bar on the ground pounded the beam downwards (if that makes sense) The result... http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k296/con...gh/IMG_0018.jpg http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k296/con...h/stuckstub.jpg And inside the beam ist self although round, incredibly rusty, i may try cleaning it up on the lath but i think it will be a waste of time as mentioned... jonnie205 1 Posted February 28, 2008 from the look of how that shaft is sitting in the tube it look like it would have had major camber
All Praise The GTI 3 Posted February 28, 2008 there was no bad camber or play in the beam when was on car just when it was removed to be replaced by a 309 gti one i realised one side was seized, the other moved nicely
Atari Boy 11 Posted February 28, 2008 I am not stressed about it, I bought it knowing that one side was seized, although it started to become a close friend though as I had been working on it so long. I have a nice free moving one now to play with.
