Rust Converter And Rust Remover

Hello !

 

I was wondering can i mix this two ? like use them both on the same surface - for instance , if clean the rust away first with the rust remover liquid and then afterwards apply the rust converter on this same surface treated with the rust remover :ph34r:

No reason why not. It's probably a good idea anyway as the rust removing gell doesn't always remove rust fully from really pitted sections.

Hi !

 

Ok. this is what i wish to do (this is front seat fixing panel) :

From the front side of the panel i can grind the rust away and treat it with the rust remover (phosphoric acid)...

But at the back of the panel in between the seat panel and floor surface is a little gap and i can't grind the rust away from this gap underneath the panel and floor surface , so i was thinking first to remove/grind the rust away as best as i can then apply rust remover , then grind some more , then on the end apply rust converter inside the gap where i can't reach/clean out with rust remover and wire brush ...

 

It's just that I'm afraid that these mixing of two different types of rust removing products on the same surface don't cause some kind of chemical reaction in between them which will kill the protective effect :lol:

 

So what should i do then ? :D

Personally I would take it off and weld it (or preferably a sturdier replacement) back in after sorting the rust. I've seen those come away more than once and it happened to me when I was accelerating up a slip road, my seat fell backwards and the car span as I came off the power, it was very hard to catch the slide as I had to get hold of the steering wheel first :lol:

nasty :ph34r: so it's not unusual rust place on these cars :)

 

Anyway you're right ;) it'll be the best option to remove that seat fixing panel and then clean (or cut out maybe ?!) the area under it properly as i really can't reach it now ..

But how should i remove the spot weld stitches in order to separate the seat panel from the floor ? :) drill the upper area of the spot welds maybe ?!

Sorry, I should have made it clearer, they tend to fail even without any rust! Either the spot welds fail or the metal fatigues then snaps around the spot welds or the seat rail bolts.

 

You can get spot weld drill bits apparently. I have always cut them out carefully with an angle grinder with a thin disc but then replaced it with welded in box section to fit bucket seats to, I've never tried to restore one to anything close to standard.

I see :) ok. thanks for info ;) , i'll try by drilling the spot welds first and then afterwards take a look what will i found under the panel on the floor surface underneath , if it will be badly pitted/rusted me thinks that it'll be the best to cut out that section of the floor around the seat panel fixing area ..
