Dave_McC 0 Posted February 23, 2008 I went to put the crank back in my Mi this morning, but the crank won't drop into place - if I remove the thrust washers it sits fine in the main bearing caps. The thrust washers I have are part No. AEW2317 STD - the packaging states XU9 83-> - so the right engine. On the back of the washer parts is stamped Fm 36 06. I'm assuming these are standard size thrust washers so I'm slightly confused why they won't fit. Anyone had this problem, and what's the solution? Thanks Dave
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted February 23, 2008 There are many sizes fitted to the block, You can machine them down (Or the crank)to the required size which is better than finding out you have too much end float there. It does happen, not often thou
Dave_McC 0 Posted February 23, 2008 Miles So if I understand you right, rather than try to get hold of thinner thrust bearings, I should machine down the ones I have? How do I do that? Or do I need to take the block, crank and thrust bearings to QEP and get them to machine them to fit? Cheers Dave
Sandy 191 Posted February 23, 2008 First off, establish which thickness the washers you have are, with a micrometer or high quality calliper gauge. Then report back and we can establish what size to try.
Dave_McC 0 Posted February 23, 2008 Don't have a micrometer or caliper gauge. As I'm only half an hour from QEP and bought all the bits from them, I might just chuck the whole lot in the back of the car and get Matt to look at it. Dave
Sandy 191 Posted February 24, 2008 Probably easier then.
