Aussie Spec Gti Strange Fuel System!

Recommended Posts

huzzer

I have just got hold of an Aussie spec 1.9 DFZ (105hp i think) It has a strange adaption to the vacuum/fuel system!

I found an air leak in the elbow between AFM and TB, it looks like someone has bodged another outlet into it. I have only ever seen one hose connecting to the elbow but this one has two which is covered in sikaflex sealant. It is connected to the fuel system which I have never seen before on any UK 205's.

1 vacuum hose comes from under the throttle body and goes to a diaphragm. joined across the top of the diaphragm is the hose from the elbow which then leads under the passenger side wing to a Purolator filter of some kind. Coming from the filter is a hose which leads right back under the car to up behind the fuel tank. I've not seen this before???

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this??

Thanks

Ben

Excess vapour from the fuel tank is absorbed by the carbon= less emissions, or some such...

Ahh I see. I assume the vacuum is to draw the vapour up to the filter from the tank? I guess this means I can just rip it all out then?!

It shouldnt do. We don't need to have yearly tests here. We only have to go over the pits if stopped by the police and yellow stickered. I dont know how long the standard engine will be in there for anyway, just wanted to eliminate the air leaks.
