406 V6 Conversion?

Recommended Posts

im having mega mega problems with the mi lump in my 309 4x4 dimma. worst case scenario is that somethings drastically gone wrong during the engine rebuild...

anyways, as a last resort, ive been thinking about maybe another engine....

now i know its a heavy engine, but seeing as the overall weight of the cars big and its not particularly going to be a track car, ive been contemplating going down the v6 route, mainly for something different.

what i wanna know..........

how hard are they to fit? any special mountings etc needed?

would the gearbox from a mi16x4 fit with or wo without any problems?

any advice whatsoever would be very much appreciated.

regards

a very cheesed off dimma owner...

Adam.

I dont think the engine is actually as heavy as people think, as far as im aware the block is (more or less) the same weight as a gti-6 lump, cannot be certain though!

Again not certain but i think its common to relocate the radiator to the footwell or boot or something and generally a lot of work involved.

I will let you know when i get round to starting mine in a 205

hope this helps

it wont fit the drive train due to the shape of the Block and configuration of the bell housing, so you would get another XU to go in there, with such an unique car I wouldn't want to deviate from the 16v XU theme greatly.

Was this posted on the PSOOC?

But as said the drivetrain won;t fit, well with allot of work anything can happen but it would not be cheap to say the least as the V6 uses the ML box which again is about twice as big as the BE box.

Jerum fitted one in his 309 and as the bay's bigger you can get the rad at the front as sticking it under the boot etc is useless as even in the 406 the rad is too small.

Is there something weird going on with the forum today? I'm sure the first 2 posts, at least, were posted over a week ago and not today!
