Short Circuit, I Hope. Common Problem?

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

Whist driving in my 205 today the stop light came on and the warning lights came on, on the oil pressure gauge and the water temperature. Both gauges seemed to be working okay still and pressure and water temp showed as being okay.

Since the y first came on they have flickered on and off a few times. The car drives okay so I am hoping it is a short circuit somewhere. Has anyone else had this problem or have a suggestion on where I should start looking?

Thanks

Jonny

If the oil pressure gauge is reading normally, it sounds like either the oil pressure switch is faulty, or more likely, the wiring for it has chaffed and shorted against the engine block or bodywork

Thanks Anthony, sorry forgive my crapness, I am still learning.

Where will the cables be going to from and from, any distingushing marks to locate them?

The oil pressure switch is the smaller of the two sensors on the block next to the alternator (the larger one is the oil pressure gauge sender).

The wiring goes from the oil pressure switch, across the block to the brown multiplug that's usually near the top of the gearbox by the starter motor, and from there goes into the main engine management loom round the cambelt end of the engine and through into the cabin to the twin multiplugs under the dash.
