notamondayfan 44 Posted February 22, 2008 hey guys swapping the waterpump on my mi, but the replacement one is missing the side plate, and it has more fins on the inside. can i still use the new pump, and fabricate a plate to fill the gap?
welshpug 1,657 Posted February 22, 2008 you may be able to use it but it would be best to exchange it for the correct one. the differences to check are the Drive pulley dimensions, diameter and depth of the impeller.
Anthony 1,003 Posted February 22, 2008 The new pump is an 8v one, hence the different casting. It will fit, but personally I'd take it back and get an Mi16 one if you can. 2 litre and diesel pumps have a larger impeller and don't fit.
ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted February 22, 2008 (edited) I was sold one like the one on the left for my 8valve. It didin't fit, that extra bit is in the way. Edit. There's a newish GSF in Huddersfield now on Leeds road, just incase you didn't know! Edited February 22, 2008 by ALEX
notamondayfan 44 Posted February 22, 2008 (edited) cheers guys, the impeller is slightly smaller (aprox 1mm) in depth on the new one, but it has 3 more fins. would this affect it too much? the missing side peice isnt a problem as i can make a part to fit pretty easily. edit, alex, thats where i got it from origionally sadly im bk in wensleydale. ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted February 22, 2008 No problem I'd still replace it for the correct one though.
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted February 22, 2008 Dont worry about the impeller, the old one is a pattern part anyway as the OE ones use a different design.
