What Clutch For Tt?

Recommended Posts

adrian_gti

Hi Guys and gals. Anyone know what clutch I should buy for my TT? The current one has only lasted just over 3 miles and it's starting to slip when boost is anything over 11psi.

I did try search for "turbo clutch" but didnt get much luck.

I have a TD gearbox if that makes any difference.

Cheers.

I think quite a few people on the gti6 forum have over the 200 bhp mark on Factory clutches (I.E Valeo)

My standard mi16 clutch has been fine for 9 months now!!

Maybe you are expecting too much off a clutch unless you want to buy a paddle clutch or something that is really heavy to use.

I know that in mine if you bring it on boost when bringing the clutch out you can easily slip it but i just don't drive it like that and make sure the clutch is fully out before giving it any major beans?

I think you either have to drive carefully with it or if you want to do loads of standing starts then accept that the clutch will be heavy and difficult to use for a really uprated one.

Though I think I have heard of people using diesel ones, not sure which though.

diesel cover plates usually have more clamping force than petrol ones, but if you want more friction you'll need to start looking at organic or paddle clutches

thanks for the replies guys. The clutch only slips when the high boost kicks in :)

if anyone has more info on using a diesel setup or mixture that would be great.

cheers

You are missing out the vital information, that is, what clutch are you using at the moment?

In previous topics a lot of TT users made use of a Helix clutch (which I think TT also used?). That should be fine. In Holland the 2.0 8v turbo users make use of a modified 405T16 clutch but I've read they're going Helix now too.

oops :) std 1.9 i think it is... A garage I once used put it in... or atleast said they did.

I priced up the helix but cant really afford £310 ex vat. Unless i can get it cheaper?

Cheers.

My T16 ran a Helix Paddle clutch.

Awesome clutch. Road user friendly, just slightly stiffer.

Worth the cash.

I know Dino would also agree after testing a couple of brands from back in the days of his old Mi.

TT used Helix clutches, which I still continue to use and have no problems with, worth it if you can afford it.

Not sure what your engine spec is, but the stock TT engine was only designed for 10psi btw
