Picto_205Cti 0 Posted February 21, 2008 I have recently discovered that my fuel pump relay had melted it self (not sure how) after it not starting one morning but after replacing this, i then found that the starter motor relay had also packed up, this finally got it started but now its hesitant and there is a big thick brown lead coming out of the fuel pump relay which if you touch it or move it in any kind of way kills the car again, can anybody tell me what this lead does, where it goes to next or have any idea what might have caused this to happen. DamirGTI 342 Posted February 21, 2008 Ouch I've had the same thing not so long ago : http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?s...29&hl=relay I can strongly recommend that you change the relay and check/fix up the wiring - the thick brown wire is the main positive feed from the battery to the relay (theres constant 12v on that brown wire even when the engine/ignition is switched off so beware as it can catch fire if the earth wire comes across that brown one because they are next to each other !) Well in my case it was the relay problem (contacts/dry joints inside the relay ..) not the wiring , so I've swap/fit good working spare relay and from then it's fine , i didn't have problems with this afterwards . But check the wires which goes to the relay connector one by one carefully - if you find burnt/melted wire , which is melted on position far from the relay/connector across the whole length then it's a wiring problem not the relay .. check the relay connector terminals - clean up the terminals and re-tense them , and check the fuse box for melted/blown fuses .. if it's all fine then replace the relay with some known good spare , or better buy new one Regards !
