Guest woodie Posted June 13, 2003 My local Pug dealer wants £130.. Local Motor Factor wants £100.. where is the best and cheapest place to get them
Beastie 1 Posted June 13, 2003 If you are intending to keep your car for the forseable future then the answer is easy: The ones from Peugeot are the cheapest by a long way because they will last for a decent lenght of time before you have to replace them again. Alternatively you can make a small saving by buying GKN driveshafts from GSF carparts. These are good shafts and they are a little cheaper than the genuine Peugeot ones. They are what I run on my CTI and they are lasting well. *However* I don't give the driveshafts a caning by doing wheelspin starts - if that's your driving style then there is a good case for buying genuine Pug ones! pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted June 13, 2003 Each or for a pair? (i'm guessing each) Give andyspares atry they sell GKN ones which are better quality than some from a motor factors. The price in their brochure for a GTi driveshaft is £48 for a 1.6 GTi and £56 for a 1.9 GTi + vat. They are all over the UK in German, Swedish & French branches and you can get a 10% discount through PGAC. You could try telling them you are a member but have forgotten you rcard to see if they'll go for it. HTH. Graham.
Beastie 1 Posted June 13, 2003 The price in their brochure for a GTi driveshaft is £48 for a 1.6 GTi and £56 for a 1.9 GTi + vat. I think that price is for the cheap driveshaft and not for the GKN shaft - at least I hope so: I'm sure that they charged me more than that with a trade price for an exchange GKN right hand driveshaft! Guest puggti Posted June 13, 2003 i thought the driveshafts where the same??? If there not, i have a 1.6 box goin into a 1.9, wud this matter??
Guest Gibbo Posted June 13, 2003 The driveshafts for the 1.6 and 1.9 are different as the hubs have different spline sizes. But they are the same size at the gearbox end so you should be fine.
Guest doughboy Posted June 13, 2003 I;m gonna need some shafts soon...Pug dealer quoted me 170 each for 309 ones.(and that was exchange) fck that. I;m gonna use andyspares when the time comes.

Thats the price for a GKN one according to the brochure, the cheap ones are £39+vat for the 1.9 GTi. They only list the GKN one for the 1.6 GTI and diesel costing £48+vat. The prices might be from but I'm not sure as it doesn't say from on the page. A few years ago you could get the 309 GTi driveshafts direct from Peugeotsport for £25+vat & delivery each AFAIK. I doubt they'd have any left now but it might be worth giving them a call if you ned some for a 309. 02476 884676 IIRC. Graham.
Guest Andy7969 Posted June 16, 2003 Just replaced both drive shafts on my MI16. Got them from GSF - £130 for the pair, exchange. (there is a £25 + vat surcharge per shaft if no exchange) They do a cheaper variety, around £34 + vat a side but not sure there any good. As I run an MI16 I thought it would be better to go for the GKN ones and hey, if they break they can go back as 12 month warranty. So far so good though
Guest Super Josh Posted June 17, 2003 Get either genuine Pug or GKN. The rest are rubbish and will last no time at all. I am running GKN and they are fine so far(fingers crossed <_< ) Josh
Guest Ken Posted June 18, 2003 Do those drives come with CV boots and everything so you can just put in the drive without too much messing?
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted June 18, 2003 Do those drives come with CV boots and everything so you can just put in the drive without too much messing? Yes, it is a complete driveshaft with CV boots and grease inside them . You'll also need some gearbox oil (2 litres) for when you've refitted the driveshaft because you should have drained it at the start, otherwise the gearbox oil will be all over the drive / road when you removed the old driveshaft and it's better to replace it rather than reuse it unless you know when it was last changed.
