pip470 61 Posted February 19, 2008 Ive just been playing around with mceowns ratio calculator and decided to put the 1.9 ratios with the 1.9 fd into the red custom boxes but the outcomes are different in the custom boxes than they are in the boxes that cant be changed. It seems no matter what combination that is already stated, it still has different outputs in the custom boxes. Im i doing something wrong? Hope this make sense to someone. dave_gti 0 Posted February 19, 2008 it took me about 10 mins to find it lol, so to save anyone else searching, click HERE the 1st to 3rd seems different when i done it too i hadn't noticed until now, and this spreadsheet was part of my decision to choose my gearbox
DamirGTI 342 Posted February 19, 2008 try this one : http://zoldalma.webzona.hu/gear.html Cheers ! Damir
pip470 61 Posted February 19, 2008 Thanks damir, Had a little play, what im interested in is the amount the revs will drop inbetween gear changes. Does any body know if mckeowns still comes on here. Maybe im not using it right. Cheers Phill
VisaGTi16v 1 Posted February 19, 2008 Google for gear calc and find the ratios on here then put them in it, far easier to use and look at than a excel spreadsheet
DamirGTI 342 Posted February 20, 2008 Hi ! I didn't try this one yet : http://www.gearboxman.co.uk/inforatios.html Damir

pip470 61 Posted February 20, 2008 Oh dear, so now we will never know whats going on with it. Is the custom ratios right when you put them in or the pre set ones. I really like this calculator too as its very easy to use. No good if its not correct though hey. Cheers Phill
dave_gti 0 Posted February 22, 2008 yeah sean is still banned, i asked about the calculator, and he said he has now fixed the problem.

DrSarty 90 1 Cars Posted February 22, 2008 (edited) I actually find gearboxes a bit of a 'black' art. I found this web site http://www.205gti.com/techgearboxUK.htm, which actually showed that give or take 1 decimal place, the ratios people are quoting on here are accurate - if indeed this learn'ed fellow is. Many web sites list 1.6/1.9/Mi16 final drives, but not a breakdown of the different gears by model. Quite useful. Then, using the 'gearboxman' link above, I found a picture paints a 1,000,057 words. What a brilliant and clearly explained website and spread sheet. Using the .xls file, I did the below calculations for my gearbox that Miles is refurbing next week (and putting the TranX plate diff in ) and I noticed two things. Rev shift point of course alters the figures drastically, put then again so does your tyres' aspect ratio. I couldn't remember if mine were 195/50 or 55 and it certainly makes a difference. Anyway I enjoyed playing; am not so scared of gearboxes anymore and find the graph on the bottom most descriptive, as when you hover your mouse pointer of it you can see exactly what's going on at specific revs. 2 (PDF) Graphs - 1.9 gears (cluster) with 1.6 and 1.9CTi final drives respectively using a 7k rpm shift on 50% aspect ratio tyres. I'll send over a bit of Software that will allow you to plug in your expected Power/Torque figures and gear ratios and will calculate acceleration times, top speed, shift points etc. It obviously just models these and assumes perfect conditions, so ignore the actual figures, BUT you can do lots of 'What if' type calculations, should keep you amused for a few hours Josh

I'm easily pleased with playtime software? And of course it'll be 'ideal conditions'......I'll be driving. You have PM.
