Rear Suspension Mods - No Torsion Bars?

Recommended Posts

gtimon

I've been thinking for sometime about modifying the rear suspension on my 205 and its something I'm going to do.

I've done searches etc. for others who have modified thier rear suspension set-up without any joy.

Basically I thought of doing away with the torsion bars and fit turrets to the inner and fit either coilovers or struts with control arms.

From what I 've read, if I used a strut system with control arms, the suspension etc has a wider scope for a set-up as I want.

Has anyone got any pics of thier setup or any comments of which they think would be best.

Thanks

A topic for eeyore, he's been installing rear coilovers on 205s for several years.

if you were nearer i'd offer you a shell with the turrets welded in place!

I guess the antirollbar holds the arms on to the beam, but you will need custom stub axles or some other bracket to attach the coilover to the trailing arm, then get the correct coilovers for the job and you are sort of there.

Colins done a fair few and he is currently customising my setup further. I sounds an easy job but i'm sure its not simple to perfect!

As I've left it too late to edit my first post. :-

One thing I forgot to mention with the "strut with control arms", meaning to do away with the swing arms and have a type of A frame wishbone set-up fully adjustable.

thanks

I know people have modified thier cars as I've seen them either on Trackday, Race and Rally cars.

Has'nt anyone got photos of thier set-up or know of any links of where I can find any info for ideas for the conversion.

Ignore cybernck, he has an engine in the rear as well, hence the front suspension :(

there was a huge topic about this a couple of years ago where i posted loads of different pics in.

i'll try to dig it up from the DB backup on my computer or at least find some pics again.

edit: there's a brilliant 4 years suspension topic still on here and it also contains some info abour rear coilovers:
