205 Engine Wont Idle

Recommended Posts

djinuk

Ok i have swapped a running engine out of another 205 gti, all plugs etc were labeled and put back on (as correct as possible)

anyway the problem is that the car is starting but then after usally around 3 secs dieing, and any revs cause it to die instantly, i have tried adjusting the idle screw with no joy, and also i have checked fuel is coming down the rail. Suggestions more than anything i am after is possible.

also there is a spare plug that i cannot fine a place for.

pic follows. any ideas ? i hangs around where the maf sensor sits (just to add the maf sensor is connected up)

XU9JA?

Is the bolt that holds the oil filler to the inlet manifold there?

IIRC I think that plug is for the rad fan and is purely for testing.

just a thought, on the plate that sits on the gearbox side of the engine, should the plug be , blue plug to the blue ecu temp switch and the black plug to the other one, also of the back of the sad should it have the hose coming from the heater matrix

also , the brown multiplug has been removed due to a lot of corrosion and replaced for simple spade connectors, is there a chance if any of that area was done wrong it could leave me , with the problems i am having.

No, the wires through the brown multiplug won't cause the problem, but I would suggest reterminating them into a proper new connector to avoid other problems.

Is the AFM the right way around? It been known for people to stick it back back to front!

i will double check that it is the correct way around, although i am getting fuel through my fuel rail , could i still have fuel pump problems once the cars actually running at all .

Ha ha you plonker! At least you can take solace in the fact you aren't the first to do this, and won't be the last (I've never done it myself though  ).

Now go and get a connector block on those wires from the old brown connector, or you'll be getting starter solonoid issues and dodgy gauge readings.

lol ok, is there anywhere online to get suitable connector blokes to take the place of the brown multiplug . to be honest i had never thought about the maf sensor, glad it was something silly though ;)
