Td, Why Does My Car Have Only Luke Warm Air Inside

Recommended Posts

tonycj

Anyways, driving down the road so the car is nice and warm (up to operating temperature) i select full heat into the cabin of the car but only get luke warm air, the heat selector flap under the dash is moving fine, the recirc selection is opening and closing fine, so i dont know what my next cause of action is?

any ideas?

Cheers,

Tony.

P.S. heat in the car at this time of year would be nice!!!!!

if the flap is moving fine then I would think its an airlock in the system.

Just been through this myself....

If the flaps working - check the following.

Hose from Header tank to top of matrix on bulkhead - vey hot.

Hose from bulkhead - bottom of matrix to left side of engine - warm but not hot.

Then your matrix is blocked - take of both header pipes - and stick a hose pipe in top hole - and flush it out. Loads of gunk will come out. Put hoses back on and refill system.

Bleed from both bleed points to get out all air - and then be toasty warm again.

Disconnected both sides of the heater matrix today flushed the old girl out, and to be honest didnt get anything out!

im thinking now blocked heater matrix!!

or big air lock. The pipe on both the inlet and outlet of the matrix was nice and warm, although not red hot.

any more ideas?

Tony.

When you flushed the matrix did the water flow though it ok, or was it restricted?

If it was flowing nice & freely then the matrix can't be blocked!

Make sure you have bled all of the air out of the system...especially the matrix...there should be a bleed vent somewhere.....loosen this until you get a constant flow of hot water comming from it.

Good point, the water seemed to flow very freely through the matrix, when i tried to bleed the matrix after i couldnt get the bleed screw to open.

The bleed screw was on the top hose connected to the matrix, and it looked as if the screw would open by hand as it had a knurled part on top but it just kept turning and not opening.

HMMMMMM !!!!!

If you can't get the matrix vent open to bleed the air from it this will more than likely be what's causing your problem.

Was the bleed vent on the matrix tight before you started to loosen it.....maybe its designed not to fully come off in case you drop it & loose it....it may just loosern so far then keep turning, but its open enough to let the air out.

Loosen it when the engine is running (with a few revs on) & see if any water starts to come out....if water does come out, wait until you have a constant flow before closing the vent.

I tried loosening the bleed valve while the car was running but to no avail, that valve is stuck and bloody shut!!

ill have to look into it a little closer.

rescue dude

I have to say after a quick bleed of the system the thermostat would have been the first thing i looked at.

after closer inspection the bleed point on the top hose of the heater matrix is just a course screw simple realy! just unscrew it untill it comes out for rapid bleeding!!!!
