Electric Window Problem

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

Had a problem with the driver's window - which turned out to be a bent lifting arm. Now sorted.

However, in the process of sorting it, I must have done something to - ???? possibly the wiring - as the passenger's window (which was working fine up to this morning) now refuses to go up!

It will go down when using either the switch on the passenger side or the switch on the driver's side - but not up! So passenger window motor works, but now only in the downward direction!

I have therefore concluded - maybe wrongly - that while playing around with the driver side window and the double switch on that side that I must have inadvertantly pulled or broken a connection/wire from that switch, which powers the up direction of the motor of the passenger side window? But everything appears to be OK in wiring/connecter terms?

The switch on the driver's side which controls the passenger window has 5 wires going into the connector block, and the switch on the passenger side also has 5 wires. Orange, brown and grey appear to be common to both sides. On the driver's side passenger window switch the 2 other wires are both yellow/green. Whilst on the passenger side switch the 2 other wires are white and purple.

I maybe totally wrong thinking it is a wiring problem, but if anyone out there has any ideas about how I could fix this please advise. Any clues most gratefully received.

Thanks - Roy

I think all the power to the pass. window runs through the drivers side switch. Try swapping the 2 pass switches, if the prob is with the switch on the drivers side the window should operate properly from the driversside, yet still down only from passengers. Then you know you need a new switch!

Hello again Steve,

I will try this in the morning.

Change the switch.

I did everything including removing the failed sides motor and exchanging only to eventually find out it was the switch in the drivers side. This was the problem, I traced it all the way from the passenger side through the fusebox and to the switch...grrrr

Hello Steve & Simes,

You were both right. There is a fault in the passenger window switch on the driver's side.

I switched them over as you suggested, Steve, and hey presto the passenger side window works - both up and down.

Now all I need is a new driver's side double switch. I have had no responses to my "wanted" request on the forum, and there does not appear to be any on offer on eBay, so I guess it is another visit to my local Pug stealer!

Many thanks for the good advice.

Cheers - Roy

pm me if you're interested.

Hello Simon,

Yes - I am interested, and even more so if it has a light in it. I don't know if these came in different colours, but I need a working black one. Also a passenger side one if you have one.

PM sent.

Cheers - Roy

I had exactly the same problem, my passenger window was as keen as anything to go down (unlike every partner I have had), but refused to go up unless subjected to 100+ presses of both switches. Eventualy it would decide to respond and the window would close.

Dino has supplied me with a couple of replacement switches that I will fit tomorrow.

That still leaves me with 1 working spare switch.

Drop me a PM if you need it.

Thanks for that Daxed,

I will give Simon a day or two to see if he has any - if not I will be in touch.

Cheers - Roy
