Bottom Engine Mounting Removal

Recommended Posts

skanny

Im stripping the front hub at themoment to allow me to remove the drives side drive shaft so i can remove the lower mounting casting.

When i pull the inner end of the shaft out, all my oil is going to piss out............right?

Is it engine oil that will come out or is it gearbox oil?

Reason i ask is that i changed the oil on it 2 days ago before realising the lower bush was on its way out!

If its engine oil i will catch it and re use it!

Thanks

When you pull the shaft from the gearbox oil will come out so have something ready to catch it....it's gearbox oil Not engine oil.

When you are finished doing the job you will have to check the gearbox oil level & replace any that you lost.

best to renew it anyway, be sure to get Total or Esso BV specification 75w80, peugeot + citroen dealers sell is for circa £12 for 2 litres which is all you need

other brands don't seem to give a good feel even at the same 75w80 spec.

That's what I try and do when changing a lower mount. Just jack it up as high as you can on the drivers side and you should hardly lose any oil.

With the car level i oulled the shaft out and hardly got any oil out of the hole.

When filling do you fill until it comes out the hole? if not how do you determine the full level?

I cant find a drain plug either, am i being blind?

Thanks

Drain plug is on the back of the diff, and the filling hole is on the side of the gearbox - it's the 19mm bolt.

With the car level and driveshafts etc in, fill the gearbox until oil starts to dribble out of the filling/level hole on the side.
