Quick Question - Disc Mounting Screws

Recommended Posts

v6Max

The NS rear disc mounting screw was completely rusted in place so had to be drilled to get it out but this now leaves the slight problem of needing to remove the remains of the screw. I'm guessing I'm going to need to drill, tap and helicoil the hole but I need to know the size of the disc screw and as I'm sat here at work I've got no idea!

So does anybody know, off the top of their heads, the size of the screw?

Many thanks.

M6

shouldn't need to helicoil the hole, just drill it with a small bit then increase up to 5mm if its still central, this should be enough to pick out the remains, then send a tap down the thread carefully.

you might even find that the remains will jam on the end of the drill bit and turn out of the back.

Cheers Welshpug - unfortunately it's definitely going to need rethreading unless I get very lucky!

The wheel will keep the disc in place so I personally don't bother drilling them out if the snap, it makes changing the wheel a little fiddly but not noticably harder than usual.

As people have said mate, its a countersunk M6, drill out with a 5mm as best and as central as you can then run a tap down.

i dont bother witht he disc retaining screws either, they just seize in place and it makes changing the disc that much harder. As for lining the disc witht he hub, my BMW wheel aligning tool takes care of that :)
