Insurance & Goodridge Brake Hoses

Recommended Posts

Rob Thomson

Hi,

I need some new flexible hoses for my 1.6. Never one to do anything by halves, I thought I might as well upgrade to braided hoses at the same time. But, the car's otherwise standard and I don't want to go to the trouble of getting the car insured as modified just because of some brake hoses...

Do insurance companies care?

Thanks, Rob.

Unfortunately, yes. However I insured my 1.6 with HIC for less than £200 with K&N and braided lines declared, so telling them shouldn't break the bank.

legally you have to tell them of anything you change that isn't OEM. Thankfully though, most insurance companies nowadays don't care about very subtle mods. So I doubt they'll charge you anything for it.

unless of course they need to weasle out of a claim, I would declare it in case something happens and they try to pull your trousers down.

failing that, before you buy, give them a quick call and tell them what you're going to do. they may be fine with it.

Thanks for the advice chaps.

It's not insured at the moment as it's just a shell in the garage surrounded by a thousand pieces. I'll fit them anyway and declare them when it's finally back on the road.

Cheers, Rob.

Thats what I did before getting the GTi6 conversions, brakes and suspension etc I recently did - most insurance companies, including the one I was using at the time, told me to take a run and a jump.

For what it's worth - I've just changed insurance companies, and the question regarding mods was - "Have you done anything or modified the car to make it go faster"

Brake mods fall in the 'make it go slower' category do they not???

But generally bigger brakes mean you can go faster as you can brake later....

Seriously - brake hoses is a "mod"?

Should you also tell your insurance company if you fit a kwikfit exhaust instead of an OEM peugeot item?

I was a senior underwriter for a major motor insurer and had mods referred to me. Changing to braided hoses certainly wouldn't have been seen as something attracting terms.

I told my insurers everything! From a motaquip oil filter to momo gear knob. You have to nowadays or you get shafted!
