djinuk 2 Posted February 9, 2008 i have a solid lower engine mount from bbm which i need to fit. however i took the piece of today which holds the driveshaft bearing etc, and it looks a right nightmare to remove the old one, any advice would be helpfull. Thats brave! i thought /i] about doing that then realised that the risk of bending / fracturing the casting was too great and i would have to take it off to replace it when it broke anyway! kyepan 291 Posted February 21, 2008 Did this last weekend using the burn it cut it bash it method, although I took it pretty gentle on the cut and bash, took maybe 30 -40mins. Burnt the bush with a butane blow lamp until the middle can be pushed out (5-8 mins), then cleaned off the excess rubber and s*ite before so you can get a good eye on metal the outer sleeve. Take a sharp junior hacksaw and gently cut through the outer metal sleeve that is left, careful not to cut into the mount, then once its split, take a good cold chisel and get under the corner of the split outer sleve, keep the chisel level with the wall of the mount so as not to dig in to the mount, once its lifted enough on both sides, get on it hard with a bigger chisel (if you have one) and it should pop out. Getting the new one in... erm i cheated and used a vice, but once it was going in, some "persuasion" helped.. TBH i would whip round to a garage and get it pressed in. So i just used a hacksaw to cut through the outer cash and tapped it in, after a few blows it came loose so i drove it out with a couple of sockets and a vice. sNaKePiT 1 Posted February 22, 2008 Yeh, but to press it in You need to take out the drive shaft and unbolt the casting(lot of work). Cause you obviously can't drive to a garage with no lower mount in, for them to press it in!!! It's so much quicker to just grease it up and knock it in yourself.
