Handbrake Problems On Lowered 205

Recommended Posts

christopher

My rallye is lowered about 40mm. (I'm runninga 1.9 beam)

I last adjusted the handbrake about 2 year ago. Problem is that the cable hugs on the bottom of the trailing arm when it is fully engaged. Also when the car has 3 people in it it can get so low that this pulls the cable and slows the car down.

Is this just a symptom of a lowered 205??

Actually when it was a near miss on the motorway yesterday. I was driving about 70mph when I seemed to loose power. After a few miles I smelled brakes..After I took the next exit and stopped. The rear right brake disc was glowing bright orange B) ....

After I loosened the cable I drove to cool it off and all was fine. (it was a start of a 200 mile journey)

Question is what could cause this to suddenly happen? Do I hace to leave the handbrake relatively loose?

yes, there should be 5mm between the inner cable end fitting and the lever of the caliper, check that you have the cables fitted to the correct side as they are handed IIRC.

How you mean? Do you mean that the cables are not symetrical? i.e there is a left and right side?

Did this on mine when i had two left sided cables on it!.. if you held the handbrake you could feel it pulling the cable as you hit bumps in the road. Put the longer cable on the drivers side and make sure its not secured up too tight and you should be fine.

Oh bugger... How can I tell which one goes on which side then..Are they usually marked somhow.

You say that the on the drivers (uk) should be the long one? i.e the one that goes under the tank?

I can't really remember but I'm pretty sure I bought it as a kit. (i.e both right and left) but its over two years since I fitted it so I can't really remember

I just brought a new cable for the drivers side and fitted it, its about an inch longer than the passenger side one and seemed to make a difference. Only about a tenner i think!

Mine got so hot it knackered the disc and pads on that side too!
