Sheared A Bolt

Recommended Posts

number2301

I'll have to describe it cause I don't know what its attached to (I have an idea but not totally sure), its one of the 3 bolts which comes out of the top of the strut, snapped off as I was trying to make room to change the battery. How concerned do I need to be about this one being broken? I thought it should be alright to drive on seeing as the strut on the other side has only had two bolts for a couple of months.

So will it be alright to drive for a while? Is it a strut off job to replace the missing bolts? Where's the best place to get a new pair? Is there any reason one side would have been missing a bolt when I bought it?

Finally I seem to remember you can put the three bolts in two ways, which is right for a PAS car?

Not a major issue with this. You could use one of these to fix otherwise it's a new or second hand top mount which I may have.

pm me.

Have to bring this thread up to ask, does anyone know where I can buy these bits from? I can't find them on service box and a mate who works at GSF reckons they don't do them there?

I was thinking about this the other day, and I decided I will get some bigger bolts (2mm bigger diameter) weld them at the bottom and use them instead of these bolts as they do always shear...

You can get them from Pug, but only as part of the complete top-mount kit which includes the bearing, the rubber, the spring pan thing and all the nuts and washers you need. Something daft like £40/side, but hey ho...

Part Number 5031 25 (from Servicebox!)

you can fit a Nut and bolt to it if you have long arms+bendy fingers.

I also got out the grinder and welder after snapping/stripping these bolts. Since then all has been well....

Are you certain on that? I got a part from GSF for that price or there abouts which was just the bearing and rubber bit.

No, not at all i'm afraid, it just says top mount. i've got dealer items, one of which sheared a bolt, i felt the same pain as you, after compressing the spings. they replaced it no probs.
