Is There A Difference Between 1.6 And 1.9 Sump Bolts?

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

I have a 1.9 lump and have used sump bolts off a 1.6. Now that I am using a sump spacer does that mean I should have used 1.9 ones if there is such a thing?

I have got a leak from the sump and it would be good to know if this is due to not using the right length bolts or have I just not sealed properly?

thanks

Jonny

I have just remembered that I used bots off a 1.9 anyway so I will will have to take it off and do it again.

Any tips?

If you use RTV you're best off putting a 1-2mm smear round the sump and leave it for 15mins to go "tacky" then bolt it up, less likely to have a leak, other clean everything and use a papergasket.

Difference between the bolts is those for a 1.9 GTi are approx 10mm longer than in a 1.6 GTi sump (or any XU without the stiffener plate).

slightly offtopic, but could a 1.9 miss the spacer plate?

Cause I have one such engine in my garage, that has no signs of plates..
