im rebuild my 1.9 and was wondering if any one knew how to read the ident marking on the shells so i can buy new ones accordingly.

I looked in haynes and it talks about the bar code on the block but that makes no sense  now i also looked in haynes and it had the max min tolerences for the shells and used my trusty vernier to have a measure and they seem to be standard and the crank seems to be round but i would like to know if they are Blue, Red or yellow shells.

cheers gavin

Hi !

S - ST - SIC marks means standard shell thickness , dunno how they mark oversized bearings but surely not with the S marks , maybe just with numbers

this ones are standard thickness :

Miles

You must get the crank checked even if it looks OK as you'll be surprized how bad they can get, not worth taking shortcut's here

Have to agree with miles. Before you start with the bearings check the crank first to see if it needs work, it pointless ordering any bearings until your 100% sure the crank is fine.
