Pob 1 Posted January 30, 2008 Hi, I've had a engine swap on my 205, but I'm not sure if its the earlier or later engine... I want to do a cam belt change. Is there any signs? Why does the later type engines have an extra tooth on the belt? Is there differences in the tensioner and finally, is the cam pulley different? Thanks, Dan
gti-si 0 Posted January 30, 2008 If the coil is located on the inlet manifold it's a later engine
Pob 1 Posted January 30, 2008 If the coil is located on the inlet manifold it's a later engine It doesn't have the coil on the manifold... but the inlet is polished so I think it would of been swapped... Dan
matty_gti 20 Posted January 30, 2008 (edited) When you take off your current belt, count how many teeth it has then go down your local motor factors and get one orderd...job done The coil could of been changed due to the polished inlet but i doubt it. Where abouts if the ign amp?, pass wing, drivers wing?. Matt Edited January 30, 2008 by matty_gti
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted January 30, 2008 All 1.6's use the shorter belt (113) and only the late CAT engine's use the 114 tooth belt, you can tell by the type of cam cover fitted or a date stamp post dating 92 on the cam cover
pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted January 31, 2008 How is the belt tensioned? If you have a sprung tensioner you need the earlier 113 toothed belt but if its an eccentric roller then you need 114 toothed belt. Graham.
