djinuk 2 Posted January 29, 2008 well, today on the drive i turned the car over.. to hear.. a grounch , ting, ting , ting and a misfiring engine, , cambelt has not snapped , but i took it off and checked that it goes back on correctly, fitted it with timing dowels in place, attempted to spin the engine around via use of a spanner to check, and it keeps locking up solid, would i be right in thinking, my cambelt has most likely slipped, causing valves to bend? matty_gti 20 Posted January 29, 2008 How long has it been sitting on the drive?, did it start before?
boldy205 75 Posted January 29, 2008 its not going to explain the ting ting noises, but a leaking Head Gasket can let water into the cylinders and it will hydrolic, stoping the enging turn over. So try taking the spark plugs out and turning it over. had this on my old 8v engine.
djinuk 2 Posted January 29, 2008 yea car started fine, 30 mins before mate, however , it has been slow and flat , and didnt have much go go to it
matty_gti 20 Posted January 29, 2008 (edited) Right, ive replaced a cam belt on one of my 205's and on refitting and then turning over by hand it just wouldnt budge, i then took the pulley off, fitted back on checking EVERYTHING and then it would turn freely, not sure why though. As for it starting before try what boldy205 suggested and see if it turns over once the plugs have been removed...And sounds like the battery needs charging. djinuk 2 Posted January 29, 2008 ok , i will try these things tomorrow night, as for when i said it was slow and flat, i meant the actual car, not the engine turning over, sorry

I may be wrong, but gtis tend to run at all only with the belt upto 2 teeth out- and valves and pistons clear at this. (my technical way of checking timing is right on a sluggish car is move the belt around a bit)
ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted January 30, 2008 Are the spark plugs still intact? something must be causing it to jam. Could explain the missfire too
