Headling 0 Posted January 25, 2008 i have been a fool and thrown away the brake limiters that go in the rear brake lines, its a 1.9 btw! any ideas where to get some new ones from? How much are they? Whizzer 71 said best to go for brand new ones as they are rather important!

philfingers 5 Posted January 26, 2008 I sold some s/h ones for about £12 inc postage recently. Usually on a 1900 of one section (ie front or back) runs the front and opposing rear and the other section runs the other front and it's opposing rear- a true diagonally split system. You could go down a different route. Run the two front calipers off either the back or front section of the m/c . Then blank one side of the other other section (1600s do this a s std I think). Then run the one remaining outlet to the back via a an inline bias valve. This then splits with a t piece to the both rear. www.compbrake.co.uk do an inline bias valve for about 35 quid, which you mount in car and it's adjustable. Tjhis is the setup i have on my rally car. While it's not split diagonally it's split front to rear so if one set of seals suddenly go you at least still have the rear brakes at worst. pics at http://s188.photobucket.com/albums/z143/oi...%20Rally%20Car/ you can see the bias valve on the sid eof the hyd handbrake in 6645 image Phil
Headling 0 Posted January 26, 2008 Thanks alot for the info Phil, really usefull, may go down that route at ome point. Basically what I have done is run the front brake lines from the master cylinder to the calipers and done the same on the rear, I did not know what the limiters were! So is it just a case of ordering a pair of limiters, cutting the rear brake lines ( copper) and fitting them in the lines under car where tank used to be? Ren 0 Posted January 29, 2008 As far as I remember if you fit bigger calipers up front (i.e gti6 or 307 hdi) you shouldn't need the limiters on the rear. Could be better to do this than to cut at freshly fitted brake lines, especially if you're going with a bigger engine. Ren
PUGugly 0 Posted January 29, 2008 My 205 needed bias valve with gti6 fr brakes.
Grim.Badger 15 Posted January 29, 2008 I wouldn't bother with new 1.9 compensators. I would either get one of the 1.6 compensators which are better than the 1.9 ones, or if I felt up to fiddling about I would put in a brake bias valve. 1.6 compensators are inertially loaded (or somesuch word ) and fit inside the engine bay; you only have 1 (one pipe in and two out) so you would need to re-arrange your brake pipes and block off a port on the MC. Because the 1.6 compensator is inertially loaded (adjustable by the angle they sit at iirc) they give heavier braking at higher speeds and less likely to lock up the rear wheels first. They are also apparently more reliable than 1.9 compensators. I've got a couple of 1.9 compensators which worked well when they came off my last car, but they have been sat in my tool box for a couple of years now. You can have them for postage costs if you are interested.
Headling 0 Posted January 29, 2008 Thanks for the info grim badger, i have run the lines already so was just going to cut them and put in the 1.9 compensators, if they dont work i'll take your ones off you, i'll PM you if i need them.
paul205mi16 4 Posted February 5, 2008 Did u manage to fit the compensators in the end? How did u do it?Got any pics? Cheers!
Grim.Badger 15 Posted February 6, 2008 Just a thought if this happens again; I fitted a 1.9 beam to my old 205 diesel and rather than cutting its rear lines I fitted the compensators into the solid lines that run between the two flexis on the rear beam. There should be a bracket that you can fit them behind and cable tie them in place.
