After Market Oil Cooler Size...

Recommended Posts

Alastairh

I am after some advice from someone that can talk from experience with owning/driven 200 bhp+ 205s.

My T16. Shall be running around 270 brake with the standard Vat25 as an evening/weekend fun car with the odd trip to the ring for a few laps.

Now when I finally get round to bolting all the bits to the shell I was planning to run an aftermarket oil cooler (like a mocal) but I can't decide how big. Space shouldn't be an issue as I will make it fit and my charge cooler isn't too awkward a size to install (I say that now).

When the engine was originally fitted in the 306, it ran a standard GTI6 rad.

Any help will be appreciated

i'd definitely recommend running an oil cooler if you ever plan taking it out on track. i'd remove the water heat exchanger

(if you still have it on that is) and fit an aftermarket oil cooler like you want to do. the thing is, get an oilstat too which will

broaden your options, as you won't be able to "overcool" the oil then. with this in mind, i'd suggest at least something like

235mm x 16 rows or even 25 rows.

the location of where you plumb it in is also important.

for instance, Matt from Ecosse on his blue 405 T16 fitted his oil cooler just before the turbo (in terms of oil take off location),

so the cooled oil would go through the turbo and cool it down better. i don't know what effects on oil cooling did this generally

have compared to fitting it at the oil filter though.

hope this helps :).
