Hey guys, i recently bought a 205 grdt as a run around and decided it would be good to run on veg oil...

the only problem with this is that it has a lucas injector pump as standard and they dont like veg oil and throw a wobbly if you use it...

so i went to the scrappy and nabbed a bosch pump off a xantia td and slung her on the 205...

i replaced the pump and mounting plate as the timing is set different on these pumps...

iv got the car running now but she smokes like a trooper.... i mean lots and lots...

iv tried adjusting the power screw and this helped a bit, iv also tried adjusting the smoke screw but still she smokes too much...

does anyone have any ideas? could i have the timing set wrong on the pump?

thanks

Jim

Jim,

The 205 is a 1.8 (1769cc), the Xantia is a 1.9 (1905cc) and intercooled so the pump will be throwing a lot more fuel at it. I would have thought that the best plan is to find a pump from the right engine (205, 309, citroen BX, possibly 405 or rover 218D turbo although they were intercooled).

Failing that you'd need to recalibrate the fuelling in your pump, or add an intercooler and up the boost to give enough air to burn the fuel (and some extra power) but that is well beyond my level of experience.

Iv since found out off another forum that its the pump timing thats out....

the pump will need re-calibrating once iv got the smoke down (i knew this before i changed over)

No problem,

You'll have to let us know how you get on. I still think my 205 TD was the best combination of fun and practicality I've ever found in a car.
