McDude 33 Posted January 20, 2008 Hello Dudes, This is really my first post (other than the one to join) but I've found this site awesome for 205 advice and have been lurking for months/years. I'm now on my 2nd 1.9 - I recently picked up a 91H in white and I'm slowly going round the car and tidying it up/minor restorating it! Yesterday, I set about the front struts, replacing them with OE Peugeot parts. The only difficulty I had (other than the 17 year old bolts) is that I can't get the struts to seat all the way down in the hub carrier/upright. I can get them to within 10mm, but no further. The Haynes advice is to let the car sit on the struts to seat them, but has anyone actually suceeded with this method? I haven't tried it yet because the OSF bump stop had disintegrated so I can't finish the job until I get a new bump stop. Just wondered if there was anything else I should try while the car is still on stands. Thanks dudes. McDude p.s. the Haynes suggestion of prying apart the hub carrier with a screwdriver - that was a joke right? make sure the locating tab on the strut is in line with the slot . get a jack and put it under the strut and put some pressure on from underneath (obviously not enough to take the weight of the car!) and yes either slot in a screwdriver or even better a square sump key and twist it and usually a few taps with a hammer on the hub helps the strut drop into the hub. i normally dont prize appart, i just put a jack in underneath and tap the hub with a hammer. McDude 33 Posted January 20, 2008 Pugnut - top tips. Locating tab you say? I was totally oblivious to this tab, though had actually lined it up okay so that wasn't the restricting factor. The sump key tip though is a blinder (I actually used an old allen key) - just went back out and the strut is seated good and proper.
