Guest gt6jim Posted January 19, 2008 Hello All, the sunroof handle is leaking and filling up the little cover, which then deposits its contents onto me at the next roundabout! I've pulled the little plastic bungs out and its appears to have some cork like material in there, is that right? What is the fastener on the end of the bolts which run thru the handle? I can't see much in there! Cheers, Jim
mossy 0 Posted January 19, 2008 They are indeed felt washers any DIY store should sell them as they are used in some plumbing applications. Undo the screw from inside the handle and the cap on the outside should come out. take the washer off and use it for a guide, you could possibly use a rubber O ring. Don;t over tighten when putting back together. Last resort use some clear silicon. HTH Al

I'm with you on the Silicone!
Paintguy 0 Posted January 19, 2008 (edited) I found some rubber washers of a similar size and trimmed them to fit. With a tiny smear of sealer either side of them I've not had a leak since. Well, not from the sunroof anyway! The rest of my car is like a sieve Edited January 19, 2008 by Paintguy
2052006 10 Posted January 24, 2008 I made my own rubber washers up using rubber from an old bicycle inner tube (also had to get some new screws from pug as the originals were too corroded). Been outside nearly a year now and used daily - no leaks whatsoever!
Guest OldGit Posted January 25, 2008 i used mylar washers from maplins and they were very cheap and 100% effective... it's no odder than diverting brake servo vacuum to the sunroof! anyone who's tried opening/closing the sunroof on a car with marginal brakes may understand... rory182 0 Posted February 23, 2008 justgti's are selling 'sunroof seals' which are basically o-rings. I had to drill one of the screws out in mine, fitted the o-rings with a dod of grease and then took care to align the handle properly and horsed it up and its worked a treat. Nice simple fix.
