mrblonde 0 Posted January 19, 2008 hi ya,my rear brake sheild came off last night.do you really need them on there tho?.
mossy 0 Posted January 19, 2008 Hi Mate, I don't think they are a MOT requirement, but they do serve to stop the brakes getting full of mud etc from the roads. I think they are available from Pug for around 12 quid. They are held on with 3 cap head screws (M4) also available from Pug for 30 isn pence each. HTH Al

Ryan 99 Posted January 20, 2008 They aren't needed for the MOT, but if they are fitted then it can fail if they aren't secure.
mrblonde 0 Posted January 20, 2008 yeah i thought that, why aint they on the fron then.im just gonna do one with them i think!.
M_R_205 5 1 Cars Posted January 20, 2008 probably slightly more complicated to fit due to wishbone movment, flexi pipe movment so they opted for the easy way out by not bothering??
joe1joe 3 Posted January 22, 2008 didnt bother fitting them to mine too much weight!!!!!!!!
RossD 44 Posted January 22, 2008 My theory on them not being fitted to the front is: The rears are more susceptible to debris/rubbish etc being thrown up around the brake area by the front wheels and the complicated aerodynamics under the car. Hence they have them on the rears and not the front. Also the front brakes do a lot more work and a plate such as this could effect the cooling of the hotter front brakes.... Just a theory mind
Rupertfinch 6 Posted January 22, 2008 Ah, but could the plates not act as a heat sink and thus increase cooling on the front?
RossD 44 Posted January 22, 2008 No, because to do that they would have to be touching the disc. Also to be an effective heatsink, the plate would have to have more mass than the disc itself.
Rupertfinch 6 Posted January 22, 2008 I actually meant to put one of those take the piss smiley faces after my post - shouldn't be posting such crap at such an early time of the morning - apologies! Interesting on the heat sink mass though! Never knew that. Many thanks.
