Power Distribution Box And Random Wire/plug

Recommended Posts

pp205

Hi,

My Mi16 conversion is currently at a stand still as we can't get the engine to start! I am a bit concerned as I think my 2 row loom has had wires cut from it although I did buy it from e-bay, so probably my own fault!

My first question is regarding the power distribution box, how many plugs are meant to be in there? I currently have the battery plug in there along with the plug from the loom with the thick yellow and white wires in there - 1A or whatever it is.

I have seen pictures of the boxes with 4 or 5 plugs in there and not entirely sure what they all do!

My second question is about a brown multiplug with 3 red wires running into it, the wires have no numbers on them. Please see the picture below - what does this do?

As you can probably see from the photo I had to join the coil wires to the coil plug from my gti loom as the 405 one had been cut! This is just temporary until I get the damn thing running!

Any help would be lovely!

Cheers Simon

the two pin plug in the picture i am sure is for either the oil level or oil temp round on the back of the block and sump respectively :) Can't remember which on though...... i think i had another plug which it connected to then split in two seperate single pin plugs which could have gone to both? not connected on mine

No wire numbers then? Loom pretty butchered?

Thanks for the reply Jim, there does seem to be quite a bit cut off but I don't think it's anything that will stop the car from running (apart from the coil plug but had the 205 one to hand!)

Just going through everything at the moment to find out why the car won't start!

Simon

I know it shouldn't affect the starting of the car, but I've noticed your AFM is mounting edge-side up. I'm pretty sure you want to mount it flat, so the plastic cover is facing up. With it on the edge the flap is fighting gravity so will give incorrect air flow readings.

AFM works OK like that - flat looks neater, but mine worked for years in that position when I had one.
