Recommended Posts

Ive seen an article about using a grinder bit on a drill and removing the lumps from the standard exhaust manifold,

has anyone on here done it before?

yes also if you got the phase 2 or non oe downpipe you can reshape the spilt in the middle of the manifold to impove the flow to, this is by making it a semi circle not flush like it is now not by a great deal mind

Yeah I spent about an hour with a air powered drill, with a small milling tool on it, on a spare one I had lying around. I got rid of those lumps inside, but gave up when it came to doing the split on the other end, (will get round to it sometime) and still haven't got round to fitting it, so I can't comment on any differences it might have made!

The guy I bought my head off a while ago said he had his done and it made an improvment...

yeah i did this to a manifold once and i did make a noticable improvement in mid-range torque. Scrubbing most of the carbon deposits out also make a decent improvement.

yeh, when i removed my mani to replace with my csc one there was a stupid amount of carbon build up and rust inside the old one which cant've been good!

The carbons building up around that bloody lip, or it was one mine - Die grinder with a big carbide bit sorted it out and whether its placebo or not I did notice there was a bit more midrange there - seemed to fill in the torque dips more than anything.

Worth doing if you've some time spare.
