Jer309GTi 3 Posted January 9, 2008 My Dad had a scrap 306 given to him to get rid of, and it had some 16" wheels on. He very kindly gave them to me to put on my 405, but we noticed that 2 of the wheels had been through a pothole at some point. Can I please have some opinions on whether a) the wheels can be repaired and b ) if not, would they be safe enough to use for track days? They are both pretty much the same as this, the damage being 2 dents where the wheel went down into the pothole, pointing towards the camera. The wheels aren't cracked, just bent but to me it seems that may be a weak spot? I hope not though... Cheers
welshpug 1,657 Posted January 9, 2008 should be fine, unsure from the pic but the tyre bead and where it sits is still round. as long as it seals and doesn't affect the way the tyre rolls there wont be a problem though they may need balancing if its happened after the tyres were fitted. I've seen worse than that knocked out with a hide mallet!! alloy is quite soft
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted January 9, 2008 What make of wheel is it? the cheap aftermarket wheels are crap and bend time after time, but if it's a good quality one it will come out
Doof 11 Posted January 9, 2008 Surely the comment "would they be safe enough to use for track days?" is completely daft? I'd only ever want something in perfect condition for blatting round tracks at 110mph on the limit of grip!!!
Jer309GTi 3 Posted January 9, 2008 Surely the comment "would they be safe enough to use for track days?" is completely daft? wtf do you think I asked for?? Surely thats a fair enough question, the wheels are only slightly damaged so thought I'd ask to make sure
Jer309GTi 3 Posted January 9, 2008 Miles and Welshpug, they are only cheap (i think) aftermarket wheels, the wheels balanced up fine when new tyres were fitted a few months ago.
Baz 421 Posted January 9, 2008 I should think they'll be fine also, i'd prefer them on the back myself. Seen (and had) worse!!

I'll get them balanced again to make sure they arent way out and give them a go
