Nathan 0 Posted January 4, 2008 My cambelt has just snapped (oh joy), I've not pulled the head off yet, but am expecting it to be pretty messy. I reckon my easiest option is just to source a decent nick new head and fit this. Is there any difference between the 1.6 and 1.9 heads?
Baz 421 Posted January 4, 2008 Nope. There was between very early 1.6 heads, but nothing really that'll be around nowadays.
Atari Boy 11 Posted January 4, 2008 I will have a 1.6/1.9 head that was stripped and rebuilt 3,000 ago, after the weekend, new valve stem seals etc. PM me if you are interested. Jonny
Daxed 7 Posted January 4, 2008 Been there. Picked up a superb condition replacement 1.6 lump for £60. Easyer to swap whole than fart around with heads. Jonny's available head sounds good though.
Anthony 1,003 Posted January 4, 2008 My cambelt has just snapped (oh joy), I've not pulled the head off yet, but am expecting it to be pretty messy. Always worth trying another belt, as 8v's have so much valve-piston clearance at TDC that you can - sometimes - get away with it. But yes, in answer to your question, all post-87 1.6 and 1.9 GTi heads are identical - just the camshaft and dizzy differs
AdamVester 0 Posted January 7, 2008 never snapped a cambelt on a 205 yet (fingers crossed) but when my engine eventually went i just figured it would be a good time to upgrade and started looking into conversions.. i was then offered a 1.9 engine with 30k for £80.. cheap as chips so i figured go with the 1.9......... but yeah the head can be a fiddly little job its almost just as quick taking the engine out and sticking a new one in.. mine was up and running within 12houres and i never changed an engine before... good luck whatever you do. Guest Scoot Posted January 11, 2008 (edited) Whilst we're on the subject of heads here, can you just confirm that a 1.6 camshaft and a 1.9 camshaft are DIFFERENT?? My cams k-nakered in my 1.6 and I am trying to source a replacment at the moment. Needs to be completely standard as I am running the car in a 1.6 standard rally championship, so if the 1.9 is different it will be deemed illegal. Cheers for any help guys! Scott.
