Tom Fenton 1,541 Posted January 4, 2008 Out of interest how expensive is the alloy one from Tweeks?
welshpug 1,656 Posted January 4, 2008 be interesting to see the price, there was a group buy on gti6oc.com a while back for Billet steel ones that weighed about the same, they went for £180. now Rich W and Lynx power engineering are doing the same ones for £190. Miles 331 1 Cars Posted January 4, 2008 The quality of those isn;t that good and they need facing off before use as the one I had to fit on Dino's 306 was not flat so be warned.

Sandy 191 Posted January 4, 2008 Alloy flywheels can give problems with loosening bolts, not ideal.
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted January 4, 2008 Does anyone know the exact weight of the 1900 and 1600 GTi Flywheels?! Hardly exact scales but I weighed one of each ages ago on my old bathroom scales & iirc the 1.6 flywheel was 6kg's & the 1.9 was 7kgs. Graham.
osama 0 Posted January 4, 2008 so if i was to get a lightened/balanced flywheel...what would be the benefits?
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted January 5, 2008 so if i was to get a lightened/balanced flywheel...what would be the benefits? On an otherwise standard engine not much & barely noticable imo. The theory is explained below in the links though; http://www.racetep.com/flywheel.html http://www.se-r.net/engine/light_flywheels.html Graham.
wardy18 33 1 Cars Posted January 5, 2008 Pretty its just like fitting lighter wheels, it reduces the amount of weight that the engine has to turn in order to get the power onto the tarmac and so with teh reduced weight the engine can spin up faster and so better acceleration, ive always found a big difference with previous cars but ive always been told you will loose torque because the flywheel is a major part which helps the engine pull up hills etc transfering the power to the wheels but for a race spec very light car they would be ideal id say as 3.4kg is quite a big weight loss from 6 or 7kg as standard does anyone have a contact number for Rich W or Lynx Power Engineering?! Many thanx Simon
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted January 5, 2008 The Billet Steel one's that Welshpug talked about but not many other's have the 62 teeth on for the Motronic etc injected car's, But as you or I doubt you run this the 200mm clutch face one will be fine
wardy18 33 1 Cars Posted January 5, 2008 uve lost me, sorry i no longer run injection, purely carbs for what im looking for?!
bluespanner 0 Posted January 6, 2008 The standard flywheels are pretty light anyway as flywheels go.
wardy18 33 1 Cars Posted January 6, 2008 well the alloys one seem to be around 3.5kg and the std ones are 6 - 7 kg so thats at least a 2.5kh difference, good enough for me does anyone have a contact number for this Rich W guy?! many thanx
