Rob Thomson 6 Posted January 3, 2008 Hi, I know this comes up every now and again, but I've done a search and couldn't find what I'm looking for. I'm in the process of getting the parts together for a quick 205 rebuild in the next few weeks. The front suspension's all fairly knackered and I'll be replacing wishbones, dampers, top-mounts, track rod ends, drop-links, nuts, bolts etc etc. In the old days I'd have gone straight to the local Pug dealer with my credit card hung on a string round my neck for easy access. But as I've got older I've got tighter and am not altogether fond of the idea of spending £150 on one wishbone, although I'm still alergic to cheap tat that looks like it's been hammered together by a demented monkey. So - to finally get to the point - are there any decent pattern wishbones out there, and if so where can I find them? Thanks chaps, Rob. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
GLPoomobile 958 Posted January 3, 2008 Just going by word of mouth, I think the main issue with all the pattern jobs is premature bush failure. Ball joints can also be a weak point, but seems to be less widely reported on here so I don;t know who off the top of my head is good and who is bad in this respect. I think Buypartsby are the cheapest, but would obviously spend another £17 on an OE bush kit from Pug and stick them on the wishbones before fitting them. kyepan 291 Posted January 3, 2008 (edited) what he said, mine lasted only a couple of thousand miles of abuse from buy parts buy. they were however 60 quid cheaper than anywhere else. the extra 17 quid, or a bit more for powerflex is definitly worth the lack of afternoon spent changing the wishbone bushes.. again. Rupertfinch 6 Posted January 3, 2008 Have to forward the Motaquip option. Managed to (via a combination of ebay and my local motor factors) re-bone the 1.6 for about £60-70? Can't quite remember exactly how much ... too lazy to check receipt folder underneath this very desk! Motaquip are owned by Peugeot and when peugeot dealers are carrying out repairs they say they use only Peugeot/Motaquip parts at the bottom of any receipt I've ever got for work done. Other apparent plus is that their bushes already look identical to those that you buy in the replacement kit from Pug (even the codes are the same afaik), I didn't bother replacing them as a result and sold the Pug bushes on ebay (for a healthy bit more than I paid for them). About 5/6 months on I've had no bother and considerably tighter handling. Final word of advice, look up the price of the parts on motaparts.com, finish laughing at their profiteering and reduce the prices by a considerable margin to get the cost from a proper motorfactor.
